Bio
Jia Wu is a Ph.D. candidate in the Textile and Apparel Management Department at the University of Missouri. Her teaching experience is dynamic in not only course content but also cultural diversity. She has taught an online course, "Introduction to Digital Presentation", as a graduate instructor independently (Average enrollment = 112). In addition, she taught Introduction to Apparel Design and Production, Science of Textiles, Apparel Production, Apparel Patternmaking, Apparel Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Apparel Technical Design (CLO 3D), Apparel Draping Techniques, Soft Goods Quality Evaluation, Digital Merchandising, Global Sourcing, Fashion Entrepreneurship. etc., as a teaching assistant. She utilizes her industry experience and interaction with students to integrate real-world situations and challenges into the course content, projects, and related assignments to better prepare students for their future careers.
Jia Wu’s over ten years of professional experience includes being a design director, brand manager, general manager in a famous digital fashion company, and vice president in a fashion institute in China. She has presented, exhibited, and published her research in diverse international referred journals, book chapters, and conferences on the topics of sustainable design and development, inclusive design and development, and digital transformation. She also has received several awards for research excellence from international conferences, including the 2023 Doctoral Students Award Sara Douglas Fellowship for Professional Promise from the International Textile and Apparel Association, 1st place and 2nd place research award from the University of Missouri, Top-10 finalist in the Entrepreneur Quest (EQ) elevator pitch competition, and Lee Henson Access Mizzou Award (for one student who has made contributions to accessibility and the inclusion of people with disabilities at Mizzou and beyond)
